İstanbul Design Biennail – Roundtable Discussion

İlk İstanbul Tasarım Bienali ilerleyen diyaloglarına 26 Mayıs tarihinde gerçekleştirdiği “Neden Tasarım?” başlıklı bir yuvarlak masa toplantısıyla devam etti. İstanbul Tasarım Bienali Direktörü Özlem Yalım Özkaraoğlu moderatörlüğünde yapılan toplantıda, direktörler kendi etkinliklerinin kapsamlı sunumunu yaparak sayısı gittikçe artan tasarım etkinliklerinin amaçları ile etkilerini tartıştı.  Toplantıda,  bienallerin tasarım konularında eleştirel bir tartışma oluşturmak için nasıl bir araç olarak kullanılabileceği ve bu tartışmanın toplumsal yaşam ve tasarım politikalarına nasıl yansıyabileceği üzerinde yoğunlaştı? Toplantıda ayrıca, bienallerin tasarım değerini arttırıcı özellikleri, sosyal çevreye katkıları, toplumsal gelişim, politika, ekonomi ve eğitim gibi alanlardaki etkileri hakkında da konuşuldu.

Toplantının ilk oturumunda konuşan St. Etienne Cite du Design Tasarım Yöneticisi Elsa Francés, 1998’den bu yana gerçekleştirilen St. Ettienne bienalinin her defasında farklı bir sosyal konuya eğildiğini belirterek, önümüzdeki yıl yapılacak etkinliğin temasının “Empati/ Empathy” olduğunu açıkladı. Onun üzerinde küratörün çeşitli sergileri ile yer alacağı etkinliklerin amacının, insanlar ve tasarım arasındaki bağı güçlendirmenin yanı sıra, tasarım sayesinde bölgesel kalkınmanın sağlanması olarak belirtildi.

Belçika’nın Liege kentinde gerçekleştirilen bienal çalışmalarını aktaran Liege’in Uluslararası Tasarım Bienali Direktörü Giovanna Massoni, 2002 yılından bu yana düzenlenen bienal için göreve ilk geldiği anda sayıları çok fazla olan etkinlikleri yeniden düzenleyerek azalttıklarını belirtti. Massoni, bu sayede küçük bir kent olan Liege için kendi sorunlarına daha fazla odaklanabilme olanağı yarattıklarını aktardı. Bienalin amacı çevre bölgelere yayılmak olarak belirtilirken; sosyal inovasyon ve toplumun ortak yaratımları gibi konulara öncelik verildiği vurgulandı. Bundan sonra trienal olarak gerçekleştirilecek etkinlik 2012’de, “Memorabilia”, “Crafts and Industry”, “Make it Shapes” başlıklı sergiler, çocuklar için özel projeler ve üniversiteler ile gerçekleştirilen kentsel uygulamalar içerecek.

2007’den bu yana gerçekleştirilen Lizbon Mimarlık Trienali’nin 2013 yılındaki küratörü Beatrice Galilee, etkinliğin amacının mimarlık alanında araştırma yapmak ve özellikle de Portekizli mimarları tanıtmak olduğunu belirtti. 2013 yılındaki etkinlikte, mimarlığın terminolojisine yeni kavramlar katmayı hedeflediklerini aktaran Galilee, mimarlık ve pedagoji, nörobilim (neuroscience), jeopolitik (geopolitics), kurgu ve politika gibi kavramların inceleneceği aktarıldı. Galilee, ayrıca geliştirdikleri “crisis buster” programı kapsamında, yaratıcı bir iş üretmek isteyen herkese 100 ile 500 Euro arasında finansal bir destek sağladıklarını belirtti. Çalışmalarını yerel yönetimin kendilerine bağışladığı bir tarihi yapıda sürdüren bienalin, bu binayı buluşma ve bilgilenme noktası olarak kullandıklarını ekledi.

Gwangju Tasarım Bienali’nin 2011 yılında Aİ Weivei ile birlikte küratörlüğünü üstlenen Brendon McGetric, toplantıda aktardığı sayısal bilgilerle, 2011’deki etkinlikleri 256 bin kişinin izlediğini, etkinlikler kapsamında 159 sergi, 44 ülke katılımı ve 4 resmi dil bulunduğunu belirtti. İzleyicilerin 100 bin kadarının ise öğrenci olmasının önemine dikkat çekti. “Küratörlük bir toplumsal hizmettir” diyerek konuşmasına devam eden McGetric, ayrıca müzelerin hazine, bienallerin ise laboratuar niteliğinde olduğunu söyledi.

Öğleden sonraki oturumun ilk temsilcisi Shenzhen&HongKong Bi-City Kentleşme/ Mimarlık Bienali Direktörü Weiwen Huang konuşmasında etkinliğin doğuş sebebini, “artık kullanılmayan yapıların ve alanların fonksiyon kazanması gerekliliği” olarak açıkladı. Huang, 2011’de 150 bin kişinin ziyaret ettiği etkinlikler sayesinde bir polis istasyonu, endüstriyel yapılar, boş araziler ve parklar gibi alanların yeniden düzenlenerek kent sakinlerinin kullanımına açılmasına olanak sağlandığını vurguladı.

1999 yılından bu yana Lisbon Tasarım Bienali Experimenta’yı düzenleyen Guta Moura Guedes, bienal ve benzeri etkinliklerin yapılması ile ilgili süreçlerin zorluklarına dikkat çekti. Guedes, zaman zaman yaşanan finansal problemlere rağmen sürekli ve yenilenen bir etkinlik gerçekleştirmenin önemini vurguladı. Experimenta’nın sağladığı yararların endüstriden ekonomiye, eğitimden turizme ve toplumsal inovasyona kadar pek çok farklı boyutu bulunduğunu belirten Guedes, bienal sergilerinin farklı ülkelere taşındığını da anlattı.

Grafik tasarım alanında düzenlenen en prestijli bienallerden biri olan Moskova Uluslararası Grafik Tasarım Bienali’nin hikayesi, 1992 yılında ilki yapılarak belirli bir üne kavuşan “golden bee” etkinliklerine dayanıyor. Moskova Uluslararası Grafik Tasarım Bienali Direktörü Dr. Serge Serov, sonradan bienale dönüşen “golden bee” etkinliğinin öncelikle meslek profesyonellerini, öğrencileri ve aslında tüm toplumu hedeflediğini belirtti. Serov, 2012’de 10. yılını kutlayacak etkinliğin temasının “Decalogue” olarak belirlendiğini ekledi.

Bu yıl 23ncüsü düzenlenen Ljubljana Bio-Biennial of Industrial Design’ın Direktörü Matevž Čelik, etkinliklerin sistematiğini anlatırken seçici kurul, katılımcı ülkelerin oranları ve yeni etkinliğin küratörleri ile ilgili bilgiler paylaştı. Bienalin kenti geliştirici yönüne dikkat çeken Čelik, bu sayede genç tasarımcılara yönelik fırsatlar sunulduğunu da vurguladı. Bienallerin aynı zamanda bulundukları bölgelerdeki çeşitli yerel özellikler ile üretim ve malzeme olanaklarını tanıtma fırsatı sunduğunu da belirtti.

Son olarak toplantıda konuşan İstanbul Tasarım Bienali Direktörü Özlem Yalım Özkaraoğlu, bu yıl ilk kez düzenlenecek İstanbul Tasarım Bienali hakkında detaylı bilgi verdi.
