İstanbul Kültür Sanat Vakfı’nın 40. yılında, Eren Holding, Koray Şirketler Topluluğu, Vestel ve VitrA eş sponsorluğunda, iki buçuk yıllık bir hazırlanma sürecinin ardından hayata geçirdiği ilk İstanbul Tasarım Bienali, 12 Aralık Çarşamba günü sona erdi.
İstanbul Tasarım Bienali’nde küratörler Emre Arolat ve Joseph Grima’nın, Londra Tasarım Müzesi Direktörü ve İstanbul Tasarım Bienali Danışma Kurulu Üyesi Deyan Sudjic tarafından belirlenen “Kusurluluk” (Imperfection) temasını, kendi bakış açılarıyla yorumladılar. Emre Arolat küratörlüğündeki Musibet ve Joseph Grima küratörlüğündeki Adhokrasi sergilerinde, toplam 46 ülkeden 300’e yakın tasarımcı ve mimarın 100’ün üzerinde projesine yer verildi.
Galata Özel Rum İlköğretim Okulu’nun 2.300 metrekarelik bir alanda evsahipliği yaptığı ve Joseph Grima’nın küratörlüğünü üstlendiği Adhokrasi, 120 tasarımcı ve mimarın 60’dan fazla projesini bir araya getirerek son yıllarda tasarım dünyasını kökten değiştiren toplumsal ve teknolojik değişimlerin ardından, çağdaş tasarım sahnesini değerlendirdi. Adhokrasi sergisinin yardımcı küratölüğünü Pelin Tan, Ethel Baraona Pohl ve Elian Stefa üstlendi.
İstanbul Modern’in ev sahipliğini yaptığı ve Emre Arolat küratörlüğündeki Musibet sergisi ise özellikle İstanbul’da ve farklı coğrafyalarda süregiden kentsel dönüşüm süreçlerinin birbirinden farklı yüzlerini yaklaşık 30 proje ile göz önüne seriyor. Musibet sergisinin yardımcı küratörlüğünü ise Nil Aynalı üstlendi.
Bienalin iki ana sergisinin yanı sıra iki ay boyunca İstanbul’un farklı bölgelerine yayılan Akademi Programı, Atölye Çalışmaları Sergileri, Yaratıcı Film Kuşağı, Tasarım Yürüyüşleri, Seminer Programı ve Paralel Katılımcı etkinlikleri gerçekleştirildi.
• İstanbul, Ankara, İzmir, Eskişehir ve Kıbrıs’ta bulunan 26 üniversitenin 76 bölümü ile işbirliğinde geliştirilen Akademi Programı kapsamında ortaya çıkan ürün ve fikirlerin yanı sıra paneller ve kolokyumlar gerçekleştirildi. Üniversite öğrencilerinin, proje yürütücüsü akademisyenlerle beraber “Kusurluluk” temasını farklı bakış açılarıyla yorumladıkları ve İstanbul’un çeşitli bölgelerindeki 17 üniversite kampusunde ve 5 farklı mekândaki 82 projeyi toplam 27.250 kişi ücretsiz olarak ziyaret etti.
• Bienalin ön etkinlikleri kapsamında, 22-27 Mart 2012 tarihlerinde gerçekleştirilen 12 ayrı atölye çalışmasında yer alan 250’ye yakın öğrenci ve 30 uluslararası tasarımcı tarafından tasarlanan ürünler, projeler, eskizler ve diğer materyaller Atölye Çalışmaları sergileri kapsamında İstanbul’un farklı semtlerinde bulunan 21 mekanda yer aldı.
• Yaratıcı Film Kuşağı kapsamında, mimarlıktan moda tasarımına, ürün tasarımı, grafik tasarım ve gastronomiden kentsel tasarıma uzanan geniş yelpazedeki belgesel ve video işlerinden oluşan 9 ülkeden 19 film, 19 güne yayılan bir programla gösterildi. Yaratıcı Film Kuşağı’nın açılışı, ünlü yönetmen Gary Hustwit, sinema yazarı Esin Küçüktepepınar, reklamcı ve İstanbul Bilgi Üniversitesi akademisyenlerinden Levent Erden ile İstanbul Tasarım Bienali Direktörü Özlem Yalım Özkaraoğlu’nun konuşmacı olarak yer aldığı “Sinema ve Tasarım: Yaratıcı Bir İlişki” başlıklı panelle yapıldı. Panel kapsamında İstanbul’un kentsel dönüşümü masaya yatırıldı.
• İstanbul’un farklı bölgelerindeki tasarım odaklı ofis, mağaza, atölye, imalathane ve mimari yapıları özel bir rehber eşliğinde gezme fırsatı sunan Tasarım Yürüyüşleri, Kuzguncuk, Beyoğlu-Cihangir-Galatasaray, Şişhane-Galata, Nişantaşı-Teşvikiye, Sultanahmet, Fener-Balat, Karaköy ve TasaPlatform ile Tasarım Yürüyüşü olmak üzere 8 ayrı rotada yapıldı. Tasarım Yürüyüşleri, Türkiye’den ve yurtdışından gelen ziyaretçiler tarafından büyük ilgi gördü, programda ilave yürüyüşler düzenlendi.
• Seminer Programı kapsamında farklı kuruluşlar tarafından bienal temasıyla bağlantılı olarak toplam 16 seminer, panel ve konferans düzenlendi. Seminer Programı’ndaki etkinliklere katılan isimler arasında, GSD-Kamusal Alan, Sanat ve Tasarım programının yürütücüsü Krzysztof Wodiczko, Londra Royal College of Art Dekanı Ute Meta Bauer, Columbia Üniversitesi Graduate School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation Dekanı Mark Wigley, mimar, küratör ve sanat tarihçisi Nikolaus Hirsch, mimar Felicity D. Scott, New York Şehir Planlama Bölümü Müdürü Amanda M. Burden, Rotterdam Mimarlık Bienali yetkilileri, Rotterdam Belediye Başkanı Ahmed Aboutaleb, Arnavutköy Beldiye Başkanı Ahmed Haşim Baltacı, TÜSİAD Başkanı Ümit Boyner, YANDEX Başkanı Arkady Volozh,TC Kültür ve Turizm Bakanlığı Telif Hakları Genel Müdürü Abdurrahman Çelik ve Belyoğlu Belediye Başkanı Ahmet Misbah Demircan gibi isimler de yer aldı.
• Mimarlık/tasarım ofisleri ve yaratıcı alanlarda faliyet gösteren firmaların bienal teması ile bağlantılı etkinlikler gerçekleştirdiği , +D Group, Arzum, BMS, Camhane, Camper, ÇEBİ, Dhoku, Dilek Hanif, Ersa, Koleksiyon, Meriç Akay, Milli Reasürans Sanat Galerisi, Mozaik, NORDist, Tayfun Mumcu, Türk Patent Enstitüsü, Zebra Design Factory gibi firmaların ve stüdyoların aralarında bulunduğu Paralel Katılımcı programında, Prof. Dr. İlhan Tekeli, Prof. Dr. Murat Güvenç, Ali Cindoruk, Ela Cindoruk, Ayşe Birsel, Koray Özgen, Ece Yalım gibi önemli Türk tasarımcı, düşünür ve fikir liderlerinin yanı sıra Marcel Wanders, Giulio Cappellini, Filip Pagowski ve Bibi Seck gibi dünyaca tanınmış tasarımcılar da yer aldı.
• Uluslararası basından yoğun ilgi gören İstanbul Tasarım Bienali, açık kaldığı süre boyunca 25 ülkeden 300’ün üzerinde tasarım editörü ve eleştirmeni ağırladı, dünyanın önde gelen pek çok yayın organında geniş yer buldu
13 Ekim’de kapılarını açan ilk İstanbul Tasarım Bienali sergilerini 44.600 kişi ziyaret etti. İstanbul Tasarım Bienali, sergilerin yanı sıra gerçekleştirilen tüm yan etkinliklerle yaklaşık 115.000 izleyiciye ulaştı.
İstanbul Tasarım Bienali kapsamında İstanbul Modern tarafından, 9-12 yaş aralığındaki çocuklara özel hazırlanan “Tasarım Zamanı” adlı eğitim programı yapıldı. İKSV’nin bireysel katılımcılar ve Çağdaş Yaşamı Destekleme Derneği, Bilgi Üniversitesi Gençlik Çalışmaları Birimi, Nesin Vakfı, Tarlabaşı Toplum Merkezi, Toplum Gönüllüleri Vakfı ve Türkiye Eğitim Gönüllüleri Vakfı desteğiyle gerçekleştirdiği BitamBiöğrenci projesi, kapsamında yaklaşık 3.500 öğrenci, İstanbul Tasarım Bienali sergilerini gezdi.
Bienal kapsamında düzenlenen turlar için toplam 35 tur rehberi görev aldı. Sergilere bilet alan ziyaretçiler, bienalin eş sponsorlarından Vestel’in katkılarıyla sergileri ücretsiz rehberler eşliğinde gezme fırsatı buldu. Üniversite öğrencileri ise İKSV Resmi İletişim Sponsoru Vodafone’un katkılarıyla, bienal sergilerine bir bilet aldıklarında, bir bilet de hediye aldı.
İstanbul Tasarım Bienali için birçok farklı yayın hazırlandı: Tüm bienal etkinliklerinin yer aldığı İstanbul Tasarım Bienali Yaratıcı Kent Haritası, sergi ve etkinliklerin tüm detaylarının yer aldığı İstanbul Tasarım Bienali Program Kitapçığı ve 3 ayrı cilt ile tasarımı özgün bir kavramsallaştırılmaya tabi tutarak sergilerde yer alan projeler hakkında ayrıntılı bilgi sunan ele alan İstanbul Tasarım Bienali Kataloğu. Kataloğun tasarımı, İstanbul Tasarım Bienali web sitesi ve DOMUS Dergisi’nin tasarımcıları Marco Ferrari ile Elisa Pasqual tarafından yapıldı. Editörlüğünü Benan Kapucu, Tamar Shafrir, Vera Sacchetti ve Avinash Rajagopal’ın üstendiği yayın, Ofset Yapımevi tarafından basıldı.
Bienal kapsamında iki haftada bir Mayıs ayından beri yayımlanan sokak gazetesi “New City Reader”, yıl sonuna kadar şehrin duvarlarında yer almaya devam ediyor.
